About me

Daniel Wiener with a view of the climbing wall

Not belonging, not fitting, a package of strong and untamed emotions and a high degree of sensitivity have intensively shaped and formed the first 25 years of my life. Emotional rollercoaster rides, resistance, excessive demands, disorientation, inability to act of any kind and not knowing - what, why, how, what for? - were often daily programs.

I spent most of my childhood and early youth in nature, here I could be who I was, follow my heart and was not confronted with being different. However, the love of sport, the need for a "we - feeling" and the social structures brought with them an unavoidable confrontation.

Who am I? Where do I want to go?
What is my path?

Since I didn't have any answers to these questions at the age of 16, the obvious thing I chose was an apprenticeship as a retail salesman in the sports sector. After my military service, a 2-year trip as a locksmith assistant and a few stopovers, my path led me to Lech am Arlberg, where I did seasonal work in retail sports for 7 years.

During that time, I caused a direction and life changing snowboarding accident in 2008. With a diagnosis of complete paraplegia, the prospect of life in a wheelchair, and a 2% chance of being able to walk again, I worked my way back to my feet within 6 months. I've learned to live with the lasting effects of an incomplete spinal cord injury and make the best of it.

As part of my professional rehabilitation, I completed retraining as a social worker in 2014 and subsequently worked, or still do, in various institutions.

Since 2016, I have been a competitive athlete on the Austrian Paraclimbing National Team.

In 2017, I completed my training as a recreational sport climbing instructor at the BSPA Innsbruck. After receiving authorization from the Vöcklabruck District Authority, I was able to integrate my work as a sport climbing guide into my independent practice in 2018.
